Chorley St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Nursery Personal Development Programme 2025-2026

Personal Development at St. Mary’s

At St Mary’s, personal development is at the heart of our vision: “With Christ, we live, love, learn and grow.” From their first day to their last, we support every child on a journey of learning and faith, nurturing not only academic achievement but also character, resilience, and spiritual growth.

Our approach to personal development is rooted in our Catholic ethos and shaped by Gospel values, which guide children to become thoughtful, loving, and considerate individuals. Through a rich and inclusive curriculum, we provide opportunities for children to grow in confidence, take risks, learn from mistakes, and reach their full potential.

We ensure that every child receives a personal development programme that equips them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to thrive in modern Britain.

This includes:

•    Developing resilience and independence
•    Building positive relationships and social skills
•    Understanding physical and emotional wellbeing
•    Exploring faith, values, and ethical decision-making
•    Celebrating diversity and cultural awareness

Our curriculum extends beyond academic subjects to offer meaningful experiences that enrich children’s cultural capital and prepare them to be active, responsible citizens of the future. Whether through leadership opportunities, community engagement, creative arts, or spiritual reflection, personal development at St Mary’s empowers children to grow into well-rounded individuals who live with purpose and compassion.

In everything we do, we aim to be a Catholic community that learns, improves, and achieves — supporting each child to flourish in life, learning, and faith.
